How a Personalized Animation Film Is Made, Step by Step

The full process behind a personalized animation film: what we do with your photos, how a scene is built, and what's left entirely up to you.

A personalized animation film turns your photos and the story you send us into a custom animated video, delivered by email within 3 business days. The studio builds your characters from the faces in your photos, breaks your story into short shots, animates each scene in the style you picked, and hands you a file ready to share. This guide walks through every step, what depends on you, and what stays with the animation team, so you know exactly what to expect before you order.

How it works, from your photos to the finished video

Everything starts on the configurator: you pick the visual style, the occasion, and write or dictate the story the film should tell. You then add photos for each character - 2 are included in the base film at 49 €, and each extra character costs 10 €.

Once the order is placed, an animator at the studio takes over. They break your story into scenes, choose the framing and pacing, then animate it in one of four styles: 3D rendering in the style of a big animation studio, claymation, pastel gouache, or comic-book. The base film runs 30 seconds; you can extend it to 1 minute (+19 €) or 1 minute 30 (+29 €).

The file lands in your inbox within 3 business days, as an MP4 in HD 1080p, 16:9. One revision is included if something doesn't match your original brief - a gift tied to a date, a birthday or a wedding, deserves to be ordered with that buffer in mind rather than at the last minute.

What we actually do with your photos

Every photo is used to build a stylized character, not to be copied as-is. The animator looks at face shape, hairstyle, distinctive clothing and dominant colors, then translates them into the chosen style.

A sharp photo, taken roughly face-on, in natural light and without sunglasses, gives the best results. A group shot where the face takes up two centimeters of the frame, a portrait shot backlit against a window, or a selfie warped by a wide-angle lens all make the work harder and produce a less recognizable character.

Three to five good photos per character are plenty. Sending thirty photos of mixed quality doesn't improve the outcome - it just slows down sorting on our end, without changing the final render.

One scene equals four shots of 3 to 6 seconds each

The animator's working unit isn't the whole scene, it's the shot. Every scene in the film is built from four shots of 3 to 6 seconds each, so 12 to 24 seconds of animation stitched together with transitions.

That structure is why a 30-second film can tell a complete story with an opening, a peak moment and a payoff, without feeling choppy or stretched thin. It's also why a story packed with too many events doesn't fit well into a short format. One precise moment, told well, beats a summary of an entire relationship.

What you decide, and what stays entirely up to us

You choose the story, the characters, the visual style and the music - instrumental by default, or an original song written for the occasion for 29 €. These are the decisions that give the film its meaning and its emotion, and they belong entirely to you.

The exact camera movement, the timing of each shot, characters' micro-expressions and editing choices stay with the animator. If you're unsure how to frame a particular moment, our team can advise you directly through contact before you place your order.

If you need to approve a shot-by-shot storyboard before final animation, the way you would on a professional shoot, this service isn't built for that. The promise is a finished film in 3 days, not a creative back-and-forth stretched over several weeks.

The story: what makes it work in 30 seconds

A good story for this format fits in a few sentences: who the characters are, what the exact moment is - a proposal on the beach, the day you first met, the family joke that never gets old - and what feeling it should spark in the person receiving the film.

A few things to keep in mind before you write your brief:

  • One strong moment rather than a summary of ten years together.
  • Exact first names and their spelling, including any nicknames used in the film.
  • A concrete detail - the spilled coffee, the dog that won't stop barking, the song you danced to at the reception - rather than a general description of the couple or the family.
  • The occasion and the date, if the film needs to be watched on a specific day.

A story that's too abstract, along the lines of "they've always loved each other," forces the animator to fill in the gaps with generic choices. A precise detail, even a small one, always makes for a truer film.

Timeline and pricing: what to know before you order

The base film costs 49 €, all included: 30 seconds, 2 characters, instrumental music, standard delivery in 3 business days. Options are added as needed - an extra character at 10 €, a longer format at 19 € or 29 €, a personalized song at 29 €, a dedicated YouTube upload at 15 €, a physical QR-code card at 5 €.

If the standard timeline isn't fast enough, express 24-hour delivery costs 39 €. On the other hand, if you order several films in the same order - for several children, or for several couples at a joint wedding celebration - the second film and any after it get a 25% discount. For a full, current breakdown of every option, the home page covers how the whole service works.

For a gift under 50 €, this budget compares to a high-end personalized object rather than a free video montage. If your budget is tight and the emotion you're after can be carried by a photo slideshow set to music, a home-made edit will do the job perfectly well - this format isn't the right fit for every gift.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to receive the film?

Three business days on standard delivery, counted from when your order is confirmed and your photos are received. The 39 € express option brings that down to 24 hours if the gift is needed very soon.

Can we ask for changes after delivery?

Yes, one revision is included in the price. It's meant to fix anything that doesn't match your original brief - a clothing color, a misspelled name - rather than to start over with a new story. That's exactly why it pays to get the description right the first time.

Which style works best for a child?

The 3D style in the manner of a big animation studio and the claymation style both work particularly well for young children, with rounded shapes and bright colors. Comic-book and pastel gouache tend to suit a teen or adult audience better, for a wedding or a tribute film, for instance.

How many characters can we include?

Two characters are included in the base price. You can add as many as your story needs, at 10 € per extra character - useful for a group of siblings or a team of coworkers.

Can the film be shared publicly?

You receive an MP4 file you can share freely in private, by email or on social media. For public sharing with a dedicated link, the YouTube upload option at 15 € generates a link that's ready to send.

Where to start

If you already know the moment the film should tell, the first step is gathering three to five sharp photos per character and writing that moment down in a few precise sentences. The configurator then guides you step by step: occasion, style, story, photos, and order confirmation.

A personalized animation film doesn't need a long script or dozens of photos to work well. It needs one precise moment, a handful of good pictures, and a clear brief - the rest belongs to the studio.
